Are there any disadvantages to using your SSL certificates?

No. In fact they are just as secure, and can be even more so,  than VeriSign's SSL certificates. The difference is that with VeriSign you would pay over AU$1590 per year to have a 128 bit certificate, rather than our 128/256 bit higher strength certificates.*
